It would be hard to think about the story of our existence in this planet without referring to the tools created by our prehistoric ancestors. From the Quenian northeast to the most forgotten realms of the iberian peninsula, fellow humans were flaking stones, striking them in the search of the perfect tool. It would still take some million years to come up with different stone splintering techniques, but from the moment that finally grain was harvested, we had synthesizers and raves in the blink of an eye.
It was in the timing of this wink, opening his eyes, that 3 years ago Zancudo appeared in a northern portugal cave, amidst the mountains, channelled through the body of Henrique Apolinário. While humbly clashing frequencies in his modular, he was not still aware a new tech was about to emerge. Not like the tools of his ancestors that eventually brought us Work, Zancudo’s tech serves to free us from it, in dancing, movement, in the carnal dialogue of bodies. Splinters of sonic pressure that clash ferociously on the dance floor, in irregular velocities, in winding and unwinding unpredictable curves, repeatedly rooting our rhythm in planes beyond matter.
Like one old raver said, in the midst of one of Zancudo’s improvised sets, somewhere in the northern monoliths of Trás os Montes. "He's like a body chiseler” yes, chiseling us with sound until we are reduced to tools for dance, connecting us, not only to our ancestors, but to the old stones that were already around in their time, and will be long after our passing.
This is his first vinyl release, after his debut on Tesla Tapes. Trying here for the first time distilling his freeform live sets into club disrupting tracks, balancing intuitively digital composition and raw energic sound matter derived from hardware and body.
Embraced by the friends from MERA, this tools were chiseled, reassembled and fired into crystals by HHY, Lechuga Zafiro, 2rana3crana, and Tera Octe.
